COVID-19 Update – A Message from our CEO

Dear Airport Hopper Traveller,

We wish to advise you on our Covid-19 awareness policy implemented as of today:

Our passenger community demographic is not in a high-risk group, however we are taking some precautionary measures.

If you have had contact with secondary possible carrier, please do not travel on our services for 12 days even if asymptomatic – we shall of course extend validity of staff passes as required for this period. Please respect your fellow passengers. You can keep updated on the service via social media. We shall post up regular updates about the Hopper service.

Measures we are taking include:

  • Using a high quality anti-bacterial/viral disinfectant ‘Miltons’ on our vehicles.
  • Sterilising all our cleaning cloths daily in bleach.
  • We are not accepting cash on any vehicle until further notice.

Measures we advise our passengers to take:

  • Bring your own hand sanitiser and to use this or wash your hands after every journey.
  • If you have not had the influenza jab this season, it might be worth getting; a weakened immune system is an opening for Covid-19 infection.

Stay Calm. Stay Well. Stay in Touch.

Lucan Festival

Join us for Family Fun at the Lucan  Festival

It’s the final Hurrah of the Summer! While technically we are in Autumn, Lucan village is going to be hopping for their annual Village Festival.  It’s the 10th anniversary of this family festival which promotes life in the gorgeous village.  The Airport Hopper is delighted to take part in this year’s festival and to celebrate our integral part in the Lucan community. The Lucan Festival will take place of  3 Action Packed Fun-Filled Days:

The festival will literally kick off with a bang with an amazing display of fireworks at the Weir in the heart of the village. Make sure that you are in place at 8.20pm as the firework will go off around 9 pm. Following the pyrotechnic display, raid your wardrobes and head to  Kenny’s Courtney’s and Carroll’s for the Annual fancy dress competition.

The scenic grounds of the Italian Gardens and Residence Lucan House will play host to the Festival Fundraiser.  Expect to see Falcon Display, Fighting Kites, Ukelele Band and Acrobatic Group.  Kids will love playing with Ivan the Viking, Mr Bubbles and the Messy Play Area for Tots.  This fundraiser will charge €5 for Adults and Children under 12 are free with an adult.  Children will also have to help round up the Gnomes which are roaming around the village!

This is the highlight of the festival and it promises to be an exceptional day. Come and find the Airport Hopper Team close to the Main Stage and get your face painted and have a chat with our friendly staff.  The Duck Race will be at 4:30 in the afternoon following the rafting over Lucan’s stunning wier.  Lucan Village will be rocking to the Sweet sounds of the Rock Stage with 8 bands strutting their stuff.  On the opposite of the village beside  Kenny’s Pub, you will find the second stage which will feature local Children’s  Groups and Community Entertainers.

Airport Hopper

Now for the bad news…To facilitate the Festival, we are not going to be able to travel through Lucan Village on Sunday. We will be travelling from Leixlip down the N4, re-entering at  Stop 10 the ST. EDMUNDSBURY (Opposite Woodies) Stop.  Please note we cannot serve  Stop  7 at Lucan Spa,  Stop 8 Topaz,  Stop 9 Chalet Gardens on Sunday the 9th of September.

The Good news is that we have doubled our Week Day Peak Time Services from Maynooth to Dublin Airport travelling through Lucan.

Papal Visit to Ireland

Pope Francis Visit to Ireland 2018

Everything that you need to know about the Upcoming Papal Visit!

In 1979 over a  1/3 of the population of Ireland attended the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park. While  Pope Francis is unlikely to attract the same record-breaking crowds as his predecessor, the Papal Visit will still result in the largest gathering of people in 40 years! The massive influx of pilgrims will mean that roads in and leading to the Capital will be under siege.

First things first,  the Airport Hopper will be operating a service as normal.  ‘Hopper HQ has been advised that we will not experience any route diversions on both our Tallaght and our Maynooth Route.  Traffic will be extremely heavy.  Maynooth has been chosen as one of the Papal Transport Hubs. It is expected that in excess of 5,000 cars will avail of the Park and Ride Facility at NUI Maynooth. The Gardai are strongly advising people to leave their cars at home and take public transport. All Papal Mass Ticket holders are eligible for Free Transport. However, due to the ageing demographic of the Pilgrims, a large number of people will take their Cars and Traffic Congestion is inevitable.  Airport Hopper Passengers, please leave extra time to go to the Airport.  The inevitable traffic congestion due to the Papal Visit is out of our hands. We want to ensure that you make your flights. Take an earlier Airport  Hopper Service and treat yourself to a stress-free beverage or some retail therapy in Duty-Free!

The Itinerary for the Papal Visit is as follows:

Saturday 25th of August:

  • Pope Francis will arrive at 10:30 am in Dublin Airport.
  • First up, he will meet President Michael D Higgins in the Áras an Úachtaráin  before meeting Political and Church Leaders in Dublin
  • He will give the first of his three planned speeches in Dublin Castle
  • From here he will go to St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral and then onto the Capuchin Fathers day centre for homeless families on Arran Quay.
  • In the evening, the Pope will give an address around 70,000 people to the Festival of Families extravaganza at Croke Park.

Day 2  Sunday the 26th of August

  • The Pontiff will start off with a visit to the Marine shrine in Knock (and yes traffic restrictions will still apply in Dublin).
  • After flying back to  the Capital,  he will be the chief Celebrant in a mass  with an anticipated 500,000 people present at the site of the Papal Cross
  • From here, he will meet the Irish Bishops in Cabra before heading back to the Airport before a final ceremony at the Airport and his return flight to Rome

While the route of the Airport Hopper will not change,  it is expected that all of our routes will be impacted by traffic congestion. Save  20% off your fare and book early on the Airport Hopper.

Airline Strike

Airline Strikes and your Consumer Rights

When you think of holidays,  you think of a stress-free time to relax.  Unfortunately, the Airline strike at Europe’s second-largest carrier Ryanair has made this a Summer of Discontent. Thousands of eager holidaymakers have been left stranded in Airports across Europe.  Ryanair Pilots across Unions are meeting in Frankfurt today to discuss their ongoing dispute.  Undoubtedly trust in the no-frills airline is at an all-time low. Consumers are now valuing flight security and reliability over low cost. In a recent poll at ‘Hopper HQ, one staff member commented, “I would rather pay more and be sure of travelling than stress about whether my flight will depart or not”. On Friday, Ryanair unions from Germany, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands Spain, Portugal, Italy and Belgium voted to join their Irish colleagues and go out on strike. 400 flights or 15% of their Daily total were cancelling leaving thousands of unhappy travellers. If Ryanair and their staff do not reach a satisfactory resolution then this Summer of discontent is liable to drag on.

So what happens if your flight is cancelled?

Firstly rest assured that Airport Hopper tickets are valid for 90 days from your purchase date.

In the event of your flight being cancelled due to an Airline strike, Under EU Regulation 261,  your airline  is obliged to refund your flight or alternatively reroute you:

Option 1

The airline will refund your flight costs: This is bittersweet as the Airline is only obliged to refund you the original cost of the flight. However typically flights will be a lot more expensive when booked at short notice.  This will also only impact your flights and not tickets refunded etc.

Option 2

Accommodate you on another flight on the same route as soon as possible: Only a limited amount of travellers will be able to avail of this option. In an effort to minimise the impact on their customers and to mitigate against customer dissatisfaction, Ryanair has rebooked using other airlines.

In the event that the Airline strike impacts you on your Return flight, you will be entitled to  ‘Care and Assistance’, this means that the airline must provide you with meals and refreshments. If you are obliged to stay overnight, then the Airline will also cover the cost of hotel accommodation and transport between the hotel and the airport. In addition, you  are also entitled to offered two free telephone calls and access to email ( sounds like jail doesn’t it!)

We understand that Strikes are completely outside of your control, so the Airport Hopper will allow you to use your ticket for 90 days from the point of purchase. Here’s hoping that the Ryanair  Airline Strike will be resolved soon so that we can get back to the business of planning our stress-free holidays!

Holiday Essentials

Escaping the Irish weather? We’ve come up with the ultimate list of holiday essentials to get you off to a flying start.

Take the hassle out of getting to the airport and book your Airport Hopper tickets online and receive a 20% discount.

Bring your passport, an obvious one really, but how many of us have ran out the door only to realise we left the passport sitting on the hall table in plain sight.

Money, those cocktails won’t pay for themselves 😉

An adapter for all your electrical appliances. Check the country you are travelling to prior to the holiday.

Ensure all toiletries are under 100ml, and in a clear plastic bag. There is nothing worse than getting out of the airport queue to but your toiletries into the bag, or worse, saying goodbye to your expensive shampoo as security take it off you.

Leave enough time to shop in duty free, after all YOU’RE ON YOUR HOLIDAYS!!

A portable charger, nothing worse than your phone dying before you’ve checked in with your glass of wine to make everyone jealous!

Magazine/books/kindle – reading is great for passing the time when sitting around the airport, on the plane, by the pool just about anywhere really.

Sit back and enjoy the trip! ( that’s if you actually remembered to do number 2)

The Airport Hopper team wish you all a wonderful trip and hope to be at your service throughout the year!

Let us know what your holiday essentials are to make the most of your get away.

Holiday Stress

Taking the Stress out of travelling

When you think of going on holidays most people think of a stress-free time to relax, alas, the days preceding your magic holiday time can be stressful!

Unfortunately, flight delays and cancellations are becoming more frequent. A recent article showed that 1 in 4 flights were delayed in Dublin Airport in June. Ireland’s largest Airflight Carrier Ryanair have left a lot of holidaymakers extremely frustrated following their most recent Strikes.  Further strikes are strikes on the horizon after Michael O’Leary released plans to cut their Dublin based fleet by 20%. Irish Tour Operators Fanfare, Buzz Travel and Irish Film Tours have lost their travel licence leaving 200 Irish Holiday Makers stranded on the Black Coast in Bulgaria.

Thankfully it’s not all doom and gloom on the holiday front.  Here at ‘Hopper HQ’ we want you to start and end your holiday with a huge smile! We appreciate that Airline Strikes and Delays are out of your control so we are happy to honour your Airport Hopper Ticket for 90 days from the date of purchase giving you ample time to hop onboard our fleet of luxury coaches.

Here are some other other ways to minimise holiday stress.

  • Avoid expensive Motorway charges and Car parking Fees by booking the Airport Hopper. Relax on your favourite Airport Shuttle and start your holiday in style.
  • Pre-purchase your ticket online and save 20% on your standard ticket. Think green and use your E-ticket to save some paper. Download your flight carrier app so that you can avoid having to print out your Airline Tickets.  As a general rule Less Paper = Less Stress!
  • Check out our previous blog showing you how to maximise your luggage space thus avoiding the stress and expense of playing ‘Luggage Jenga’ at the Airport.
